Selling Children's Rainwear in Ireland: Sizes, Layers and Worn Seams
Prepare raincoat, puddle-suit and waterproof-trouser ads with current measurements, clear label information and honest notes about wear and missing parts.
Outgrown rainwear may still be useful to another family, but fit and current condition matter more than the age range on the label alone. Prepare each garment separately before creating a bundle. A jacket, trousers and all-in-one suit can need different measurements and descriptions.
Record the labels and measurements
Give the manufacturer, labelled size and relevant material information. Measure the garment laid flat without stretching it. For an all-in-one, useful measurements include shoulder-to-ankle length and sleeve length; explain how you measured so another parent can compare with an existing garment.
Mention adjustable straps, detachable hoods and removable liners, and state which parts remain. Do not describe a set as complete when the trousers or fastening accessories pictured on the original packaging are missing.
Inspect high-wear areas
Check knees, seat, cuffs, zip and seams. Photograph worn coatings, tears, damaged fastenings and previous repairs. If a patch has been added, explain the work rather than hiding it beneath a fold.
A garment's original waterproof specification is not proof of unchanged performance after repeated wear and washing. Use verified label information and describe observations about current use. Avoid promising that it will keep every child dry in all conditions.
Clean without concealing condition
Follow the care instructions, including any guidance for technical fabrics. Do not use an unfamiliar treatment simply to make water bead for a photograph. If you have used a specific treatment, say what was done without guaranteeing the result for the next owner.
Remove personal name labels where practical without damaging the garment, and keep children's faces or school details out of listing photographs. Preserve manufacturer labels and any relevant guidance with the item.
Make the offer easy to collect
Bundle items by a coherent size range and list each piece. Do not inflate the count with unrelated extras that are in much poorer condition. State whether the buyer is expected to take the whole lot.
Agree collection or verify the packed postage cost before accepting an offer. Keep the clothes dry until handover, then mark them sold. Advertise outgrown rainwear, or use the children's clothing bundle guide to organise everyday garments separately.
