Selling Winter Boots in Ireland: Soles, Sizing and What the Photos Should Show

Prepare a second-hand boot listing with clear size information, sole and lining photographs, honest wear notes and practical postage details.

Winter boots are difficult to assess from a single photograph of the uppers. Buyers also need to see the soles, lining and fastenings, and understand how the labelled size is expressed. Start with the pair together and check each boot separately before deciding how to describe its condition.

Make the size unambiguous

Copy the size markings accurately and state whether the label uses EU, UK or another system. Avoid converting between systems unless the manufacturer provides the equivalent. If you mention your own usual shoe size, make clear that it is an observation rather than a fit guarantee.

Give the model or style name where verified. If the insole removes normally, an accurately described measurement may help, but do not force a glued insole out to obtain one. Shaft height and opening measurements can also be useful for taller boots.

Photograph the wear underneath

Show both soles, heels, toe areas, zips and the inside lining. Explain uneven wear, peeling material, loose seams and previous repairs. Photograph a pair rather than selecting only the better boot for every image.

Do not describe grip, waterproofing or protection as guaranteed simply because the boots were marketed for winter when new. State what you know about their current condition and avoid presenting visibly compromised footwear as suitable protective equipment.

Clean according to the material

Check the care guidance before using cleaning or waterproofing products. Suede, leather and synthetic finishes may need different treatment. If a mark remains, photograph it instead of promising that another clean will remove it.

Explain whether the boots have been worn indoors, outdoors or only tried on, as applicable. Remove private details from a purchase receipt if you show proof of purchase. Keep any authenticity claim within what you can actually substantiate.

Price and pack the actual pair

Compare similar models and condition, including sole wear and missing boxes or spare laces. Decide whether your asking price includes postage before responding to offers. Weigh the parcel with suitable packaging rather than estimating from the boots alone.

For a local handover, agree inspection and payment in advance and confirm payment independently. Mark the pair sold when complete. Create a boot listing or use the winter coat guide to prepare matching outerwear as a separate offer.
