A little care goes a long way. Use these practical tips when you buy or sell locally.
Before you agree a deal
- Read the whole ad and ask questions. A low price or urgent request can be a warning sign.
- Use messages on ClassifiedAds.ie to keep a record. Your email address is not shown publicly.
- Do not share passwords, banking codes, identification documents or payment card details with another member.
- We do not send payment collection links, QR codes or requests to pay to release funds.
Collection and payment
- Meet in a well-lit public place where practical. Tell someone where you are going.
- Check the item, its condition and any accessories before handing over money.
- For vehicles, independently check the history, ownership documentation and NCT details.
- For property, independently verify the advertiser and view the property before paying a deposit.
- Agree delivery directly and understand the risks of paying before an item arrives. There is no platform payment protection.
Something doesn’t look right?
Use “Report this ad” on a real listing and explain your concern. Reports are stored for administrator review. In Messages, select “Report” beside an incoming message to share that message and your reason with the moderation team. Select “Block member” to stop further messages between you and that member. You can unblock them in Messages or My ads. For urgent conversation concerns, email info@classifiedads.ie with the ad reference and relevant details. If you think you have been defrauded, contact your payment provider promptly and report it to An Garda Síochána. In an emergency, contact the emergency services.
