How to Sell Winter Coats in Ireland: Measurements, Wear and Honest Pricing

Write a winter coat listing with useful measurements, fabric and care-label details, clear photographs of wear and a realistic collection or postage plan.

A winter coat ad should help a buyer judge the garment they will receive, not simply repeat the brand name. Fit, fastenings and condition matter when people plan to wear layers underneath. Before listing a coat, empty the pockets, check the lining and find its material and care labels.

Measure the coat consistently

Give the labelled size, then add measurements taken with the garment laid flat. Useful figures include underarm-to-underarm width, shoulder-to-hem length and sleeve length. State how you measured rather than converting a flat width into a guaranteed body size.

Mention removable hoods, liners or belts, and say whether they are included. A coat that originally had a detachable lining should not be described as a complete package if that lining is missing. Photograph the current configuration clearly.

Show the areas that receive most wear

Photograph the front and back, cuffs, collar, zip, pockets and lining. Explain fraying, pilling, tears, marks and previous repairs. If a fastening is unreliable, say so rather than closing the coat carefully for every photograph.

Follow care instructions before cleaning. Do not claim a coat has been professionally cleaned unless it has. If cleaning remains necessary, reflect that in the description and avoid assuming that every mark will come out.

Be careful with performance descriptions

Use material and product information you can verify. Water-resistant and waterproof are different claims, and a garment's original specification does not prove its present performance after years of use. Describe any observed limitations rather than promising protection in all Irish winter weather.

For a branded item, photograph relevant labels and disclose uncertainty about its origin. A familiar-looking logo alone is not a basis for an authenticity guarantee.

Price the garment as it stands

Compare the same model or a similar type, accounting for condition, missing parts and delivery costs. An original retail price is background information, not evidence of current resale value. Decide whether you will consider offers before publishing.

Pack only when the coat is clean and dry, weigh the packed parcel before quoting postage, and agree collection privately if staying local. Advertise your coat, or see selling knitwear if you are sorting a full winter wardrobe.
