Selling a Washing Machine in Ireland: Testing, Access and Collection
Describe a used washing machine with its model, tested functions, known faults and collection requirements so buyers can plan transport before travelling.
A washing machine is a substantial collection, so a useful ad should cover both its condition and the route out of the property. Buyers need to know what they can inspect, who will disconnect it and whether transport arrangements are realistic.
Record the model and dimensions
Give the manufacturer and exact model. Include the labelled load capacity if verified and measure the overall width, depth and height. Explain whether it is freestanding or integrated and whether any furniture door or fitting is included.
Do not copy an energy rating from a newer model. If you have the original label or documentation, identify it accurately rather than promising running costs that depend on use and tariffs.
Explain the extent of testing
If the machine is still connected, describe the functions or cycles you have checked. Mention leaks, unusual noise, draining problems, error messages and damaged seals. If it was disconnected months ago, make clear when it was last used instead of presenting a past observation as a current full test.
Photograph the front, drum area, controls and visible damage. Do not remove protective panels or attempt unfamiliar electrical repairs to improve the listing. For a potentially unsafe appliance, obtain appropriate advice rather than advertising it as ready to connect. Consult CCPC product safety notices for the exact model where relevant.
Agree disconnection and access
State who will arrange safe disconnection from electricity, water and drainage. If you are not confident about the work, use a suitably qualified person. Explain stairs, narrow doors and parking restrictions without publishing the full address.
Ask the buyer to bring appropriate transport and lifting help. Confirm any manufacturer transport requirements, including transit bolts where applicable, from the model's instructions. Do not assume that any bolts or laying position will be suitable.
Keep the price and package clear
List the hoses, documentation and other parts included, noting anything missing. Compare with machines of a similar model and condition, accounting for collection work. Avoid promising installation or delivery unless you have explicitly arranged it.
Allow a sensible inspection before handover and independently check payment. Once collected, mark the ad sold. Post your appliance ad or read selling a fridge or freezer for another bulky appliance checklist.
