Selling a Wardrobe in Ireland: Dismantling, Missing Fittings and Collection

Prepare a wardrobe listing with exterior and interior measurements, honest condition details and an agreed dismantling plan before collection.

A wardrobe can attract interest quickly and still be difficult to collect. The problem is often access or dismantling rather than price. Describe the assembled item and the work required to move it so a buyer can make a realistic plan before accepting the offer.

Give more than overall height

Measure width, depth and height, including protruding handles or cornices where relevant. Describe the interior layout: hanging rails, drawers and shelves. State whether the doors slide or open outwards and whether mirrors are attached.

If you know the manufacturer and model, include them. Do not assume that parts from another version will fit. A useful internal photograph can answer questions that an exterior image leaves open.

Inspect joints and moving parts

Show the doors, back panel, hinges, drawer runners and visible damage. Explain loose joints, water damage, missing shelves and any instability. Do not describe a wardrobe needing structural repair as simply ready for another home.

If it has an anti-tip arrangement or wall fixings, explain what is present and follow the manufacturer's guidance. Do not tell the next owner that securing a tall unit is unnecessary. Check relevant CCPC safety information when the model's safety or recall status is uncertain.

Decide who dismantles it

Some furniture tolerates moving better than repeated disassembly. Be honest about whether it has been dismantled before and whether fittings remain sound. Use the original instructions if available rather than improvising a method for a heavy or mirrored item.

Agree whether you or the buyer will dismantle it, which tools are needed and who provides lifting help. Photograph the assembled condition before disassembly, label panels and keep fittings in a secure bag. Allow adequate time rather than promising a five-minute collection.

Explain access before exchanging addresses

Give the floor level, lift availability and any tight stairs. Share the full collection address only once arrangements are agreed. Ask the buyer to confirm transport dimensions and enough people to handle the panels safely.

State exactly what the asking price includes and verify payment independently at handover. After collection, mark it sold. Advertise your wardrobe or consult the general furniture collection guide for more access-planning advice.
