Selling a Used Sofa in Ireland: Measurements, Fabric Condition and Access
Prepare a sofa ad with complete measurements, clear upholstery photographs and practical collection details to help local buyers plan their purchase.
The right sofa for a buyer still needs to fit through their doorway. That is why a useful sofa listing combines honest condition notes with measurements and access information. Avoid starting with “must go today” before checking whether a realistic collection is possible.
Measure every section
Give overall width, depth and height. For a corner sofa, explain the orientation as viewed from the front and measure both sides. A photograph helps, but a written orientation prevents confusion when room layouts differ.
Say whether it separates into sections and whether legs remove according to the manufacturer's method. If it has a recliner or sofa bed, include the space required when opened. Do not describe a sofa bed as fully working unless you have checked the mechanism safely.
Show upholstery and structural condition
Photograph the sofa without throws or decorative cushions hiding the surface. Include close-ups of stains, tears, worn areas and repairs. Describe sagging cushions, loose arms or unusual movement. A freshly cleaned cover does not establish that the frame is sound.
Mention relevant household conditions, such as pets or smoking, if you can state them accurately. Do not guarantee allergy suitability or claim professional cleaning unless that is what actually occurred. If there is mould, infestation or another issue making reuse unsuitable, use an appropriate disposal route rather than presenting it as a normal sale.
Set expectations about collection
State the floor level and general access. Tell the buyer whether parking is close and whether narrow stairs are involved. Ask them to confirm suitable transport and enough people for lifting; do not assume a two-person collection includes your help.
For a home handover, keep the sofa accessible where practical and consider another adult being present. Share the precise address after agreeing a collection slot, not in the public description.
Price the complete package
Compare similar sofa types, dimensions and condition. Explain whether matching cushions, a footstool or another chair is included. A buyer's van hire can affect their overall budget, so be clear if delivery is not available.
Agree payment, allow inspection and update the listing after collection. Place your sofa ad or read the moving-house selling checklist if several bulky items need new homes.
