Selling Table and Floor Lamps in Ireland: Shades, Dimensions and Condition
Prepare a lamp listing with exact dimensions, included shades and clear condition photographs, without guessing at electrical safety or compatibility.
A lamp buyer needs to know whether the fitting suits their room and what is included in the asking price. A lit photograph can show the appearance, but it does not establish electrical safety. Start with the model, dimensions and visible condition before deciding whether it is appropriate to offer for use.
Describe the complete lamp
Measure overall height and the widest part of the shade or base. State whether the shade, finial and other removable parts are included. For a pair, explain whether they match exactly or differ in colour, size or wear.
Identify the brand and bulb-fitting information only when verified from the product or instructions. Do not guess a maximum bulb rating or claim that every replacement bulb will be compatible. Keep any original guidance available for the buyer.
Inspect before demonstrating
Look for visible cable damage, loose parts, unstable bases and damaged plugs or switches. Do not operate a lamp that may be unsafe or attempt unfamiliar wiring repairs for the sale. Seek appropriate advice when condition is uncertain.
Check the manufacturer and relevant CCPC product safety notices where applicable. If an item is unsuitable for reuse, a recognised electrical recycling route is more appropriate than an ordinary ready-to-use listing.
Photograph materials and wear
Show the lamp unlit in good light, then add a lit photograph only when appropriate. Include the shade lining, base, controls and significant marks. Describe cracks, dents, tarnishing, stains and fading honestly.
Do not call a base antique, solid brass or designer-made because it resembles an example online. If the material or maker is uncertain, describe the visible finish and avoid unsupported value claims.
Agree a package that can travel
Explain whether a fragile shade can be removed for transport and whether original packaging is available. If you offer postage, confirm suitable packaging and the full parcel dimensions before quoting a price. A local collection may be simpler for a tall floor lamp.
Compare with lamps of a similar size, material and condition, and make clear whether the price is for one or a pair. Confirm payment independently and update the ad once sold. Post your lamp ad, or use the living-room reset guide to decide which furnishings still work together.
