Selling Curtains and Blinds in Ireland: Measure the Fabric, Not Just the Window
Prepare curtain and blind listings with panel measurements, heading types, included fittings and clear condition details before arranging collection.
Curtains that looked right in your room may be the wrong width, drop or heading style for someone else's. A useful listing gives measurements of the actual product, along with its fittings and condition. The width of the window it once covered is not enough to establish a fit.
Measure each panel separately
For curtains, record the flat width and drop of each panel and state how many panels the price covers. Explain whether the length includes the heading or hanging rings. Identify the heading type where known, such as eyelet or pencil pleat, and mention lining or blackout backing without exaggerating its performance.
Do not assume that a buyer can alter a fabric easily. If the curtains have already been shortened or joined, describe the work and photograph it. Keep any matching tiebacks separate in the description so buyers know whether they are included.
Photograph fabric and wear
Show the complete pair in good light, a close-up of texture and the reverse. Include sun fading, stains, damaged lining and pulled threads. Avoid colour filters that make the fabric look richer than it is. If the colour is hard to capture, describe the shade and offer an ordinary-light image.
Follow the care label before cleaning. State any odour or cleaning requirement honestly, and do not promise that dry cleaning will remove a particular stain.
Treat blind fittings and cords carefully
For a blind, measure the unit and fabric as applicable, and explain which brackets, controls and instructions are included. Do not suggest it can fit any window because it once fitted yours.
The CCPC's window blind guidance addresses risks from cords and chains. Check the product and necessary safety components before resale; do not pass on missing safety parts as a minor cosmetic issue. Installation should follow the appropriate instructions.
Agree the package before collection
State whether poles, tracks or hardware are included, and price comparable fabric, size and condition. Fold or roll items carefully so they arrive dry and complete. Keep the full collection address out of the public ad.
