How to Sell a Chest of Drawers in Ireland: Runners, Handles and Collection
Describe a chest of drawers with usable measurements, drawer and handle condition and a clear plan for safe access and local collection.
Storage furniture is useful only if the buyer can fit it into the room, move it through the property and use its drawers normally. A chest-of-drawers listing should therefore explain dimensions and function alongside appearance. Empty the unit before assessing it so belongings do not hide faults.
Measure the cabinet and useful space
Give width, depth and height, including protruding handles if they affect clearance. State the number of drawers and note different drawer sizes. If a buyer needs to store particular items, an internal drawer measurement may be more useful than the cabinet's outside dimensions alone.
Identify the material where known. Solid timber, veneer and painted board are different descriptions. Do not copy the specification of a similar-looking current product when you cannot identify your unit.
Check each drawer
Open and close every drawer in the normal way. Describe damaged runners, missing stops, stiff movement and loose handles. Photograph any repairs or missing parts. A photograph with every drawer closed should not conceal that one drawer cannot be used.
Check the cabinet for obvious instability, damaged joints and water damage. Do not describe a structural problem as a minor scratch. Follow the manufacturer's anti-tip and installation guidance, and explain which relevant fittings or instructions remain with the unit.
Show the finish honestly
Photograph the top, front, sides and back where accessible. Include rings, chips, peeling paint and worn edges. If you refinished the piece, describe the work you actually did without making an unsupported claim about coatings or professional restoration.
Remove decorative objects from the main photograph or clearly exclude them. Mirrors, lamps and baskets should not accidentally become part of the offer because they were styled on top.
Make collection workable
Explain the floor level, lift access and parking situation generally. State whether drawers can be removed using the normal method and whether you expect the cabinet to be collected assembled. Ask the buyer to arrange suitable transport and lifting help.
Do not attempt to move a heavy unit alone to meet a rushed appointment. Confirm inspection and payment arrangements, then close the ad after collection. Advertise your chest of drawers, or see bookcases and shelving if you are reorganising more storage furniture.
