How to Sell a Second-Hand Suitcase in Ireland: Measurements, Wheels and Zips

Prepare a used suitcase for sale in Ireland with clear measurements, wheel and zip checks, honest condition photos and a simple listing checklist.

To sell a second-hand suitcase in Ireland, measure the whole case, check its wheels, handles and zips, and photograph the inside as well as the shell. State exactly what is included and describe any damage. A buyer needs to judge whether the case suits their journey, not just whether it looks tidy in one photograph.

Measure the case rather than guessing its size

Record the height, width and depth in centimetres, explaining whether your measurements include wheels, fixed handles and other protruding parts. If the case expands, measure it closed and expanded separately. Include its empty weight if you can weigh it reliably; otherwise leave that detail out.

Avoid promising that a case is accepted as cabin baggage for every flight. Give the measurements so the buyer can check the requirements for their own booking. A description such as “approximately 55 × 36 × 23cm externally, including wheels, measured with expansion closed” is more useful than “perfect hand luggage”. Use your own measurements, rather than copying this example.

Check the parts a buyer will use

Roll the case on an ordinary level surface and try changing direction. Extend and retract the handle, open each zip fully, and check internal straps and pockets. Describe what you observed: “all four wheels turn; the handle sometimes sticks when lowering” tells someone more than “good condition”.

Look for cracks near the wheels, worn corners, split seams and damage to the lining. If a lock has a missing key or you do not know its combination, say so. Do not call an untested lock working or assume that a familiar badge proves the case is authentic.

Take a short, useful photo sequence

Start with the whole suitcase standing upright against a simple background. Add the open interior, wheels and underside, extended handle, brand or size label, and close-ups of wear. Photograph the actual case in its present condition, including scratches that are hard to see from a distance.

Empty every pocket and remove old luggage labels showing personal details before taking photos. The listing photography guide explains how to make a small set of pictures answer different questions.

Define the offer and collection area

If selling a matching set, list the measurements and condition of each piece. Explain whether the asking price covers the complete set or one case. A damaged smaller bag should not disappear into a photograph behind a larger one.

Compare similar cases by size, material, condition and included pieces using the second-hand pricing guide. Put your town and county in the listing, such as Swords, County Dublin, and agree the collection details in messages. Check packing and delivery costs before offering postage.

Use this final listing checklist

  • Title identifies the brand if known, colour and case type.
  • External measurements say how the case was measured.
  • Wheel, handle, zip and lining condition are described.
  • Photos show the interior, underside and any damage.
  • Price clearly covers one case or the stated set.
  • Collection area and included accessories are accurate.

Browse bags and accessories for comparable listings, then place a free ad with your own photos. Once the suitcase has been handed over and the sale is complete, mark the ad sold so other members see its current availability.
