How to Take Listing Photos That Help You Sell Items in Ireland
Use a phone camera to take clear listing photos that show size, accessories and defects, while keeping your address and personal details out of the ad.
A useful classified-ad photograph answers a question: what is the item, what condition is it in, and what exactly comes with it? You can usually achieve that with a phone, a clear background and a few minutes of preparation. Expensive equipment is less important than showing the actual offer honestly.
Start with one recognisable main image
Clean the camera lens and place the item in good natural light where practical. Avoid strong backlighting that turns it into a silhouette. Leave enough space around the edges so buyers can see the whole item, including legs, handles or important attachments.
Use a neutral background rather than a pile of unrelated belongings. If the ad is for one chair, make that chair the subject. A photograph containing several attractive items can confuse buyers about what the price includes.
Build a short sequence of useful views
After the main photograph, show the back, sides and details that affect use. Include identifying labels where helpful, but check for private information first. For furniture, show a useful measurement in context while also writing the dimensions in the description.
Photograph damage plainly. A scratch, missing button or cracked corner should be visible at a useful scale, not hidden by distance or glare. This can save a buyer a wasted journey and reduce disagreements at collection.
Keep editing modest
Cropping and correcting an overly dark image can help readability. Avoid filters that change colour, smoothing that hides wear or edits that remove defects. Use photographs of your actual item rather than a retailer's image of a new one.
If colour is difficult to represent accurately, describe that in the text. Do not promise that the item matches every buyer's screen. Take another image in different ordinary light rather than increasing saturation until it looks more appealing.
Check privacy before uploading
Look for letters, number plates where sensitive, identity documents, screens and reflections. Remove house numbers and family details from the background. You do not need to publish a full address to demonstrate that an item exists.
Upload the clearest supported images, then review their order in the ad. Make sure the first photograph still matches the current offer after editing or splitting a bundle. Create your free listing, or read how to sell unwanted items to prepare the description alongside the photos.
