Why Is My Ad Not Getting Enquiries? Irish Seller Checklist

Check a quiet ad's availability, category, title, photos, missing details, collection options and price before deciding what to change.

If your ad is not getting enquiries, check whether the public listing is available and whether a buyer can understand the offer. Review category, title, photographs and missing details before assuming price is the only problem. Change one meaningful element at a time so your next decision has a basis.

Before you start

  • Open the actual public ad while signed out.
  • Check that the first photo identifies the complete offer.
  • Review dimensions, condition, locality and price together.

Check that the offer is available and clear

Open the public ad while signed out and confirm that it describes the item you still have. Check its category and subcategory. A tablet listed as a computer accessory may not appear where the intended buyer expects to browse.

Read the title without looking at the photo. Can someone identify the item, model or useful size? Replace phrases such as “bargain must go” with the actual product. Remove other objects from the offer unless you have explained exactly what the price includes.

Ask whether the first photo answers a question

The main image should show the complete item in ordinary light. A dark room, unopened storage bag or manufacturer picture can leave people unsure what they will receive. Add your own detail photographs of model information, accessories and wear.

Do not hide defects to attract messages. A buyer discovering damage later is not a better enquiry. Use the listing photography guide to create a useful sequence instead of uploading several almost identical views.

Fill the gaps that delay a decision

Check dimensions, condition, included parts and your general locality. “Standard size” is rarely enough for furniture. “Works fine” leaves a laptop buyer without storage, model or battery information. State what you checked and what remains uncertain.

Make collection realistic. Explain whether a bulky item is upstairs, can be dismantled or needs suitable transport. Avoid imposing a collection deadline that you cannot accommodate when a buyer suggests an actual time.

Review price after reviewing the offer

Compare similar items in similar condition, keeping asking prices separate from sold prices. Use the second-hand pricing guide if you have no reliable completed-sale evidence.

Change one meaningful element, note what you changed and allow a sensible review period for your own deadline. Do not invent view counts or assume a particular change guarantees enquiries. Seasonal and specialist items may need patience.

Keep one accurate listing rather than several conflicting copies. If you decide to keep the item, remove the offer. If it sells, mark it sold promptly. Browse the relevant marketplace categories to check where your next listing belongs, then improve the details a genuine buyer needs.
