A mirror or framed print can appear much smaller in a room photograph than it is in person. Give the overall dimensions and show the actual object from both sides. Buyers need to understand the frame, glass, hanging arrangement and condition before deciding whether it suits their space.

Measure the whole object

Record the outside height and width, including the frame, and add depth where relevant. For a print, distinguish the visible image area from the overall framed size. Say whether an image shows the item upright or temporarily resting on another surface.

For a group of prints, list dimensions individually and state whether the price covers the group. A matching appearance does not necessarily mean identical frames or glass. Explain any differences in size, finish or backing.

Separate identification from attribution

Describe a print as a print unless you have a sound basis for identifying it otherwise. Photograph signatures, labels and edition information without claiming authenticity from appearance alone. An inherited frame or handwritten note is useful context but not independent verification of an artist.

Do not estimate a mirror's weight from memory. If you cannot measure it appropriately, say that the weight is unknown and provide the dimensions. A buyer planning wall mounting needs reliable information rather than an optimistic guess.

Photograph what reflections can hide

Take images that show the surface, frame corners, backing and existing hanging hardware. Avoid reflections of people, private rooms, documents or screens. Photograph chips, scratches, clouding, silvering wear, loose backing and repaired frame joints.

Do not conceal a crack behind an angled image. A damaged object needs a clear explanation and an appropriate decision about whether it is suitable to pass on. Ordinary decorative condition and structural soundness are different questions.

Agree handling before collection

State where the item can be collected and whether stairs or narrow access are involved. Do not promise that existing fixings will suit the buyer's wall. Any new installation needs appropriate assessment and hardware for that setting.

Fragile objects require suitable handling, support and transport. If posting is considered, check carrier acceptance and damage exclusions first; An Post's restricted-item information includes glass, fragile items and works of art. Do not assume that a “fragile” label creates cover.

Use similar size and condition when comparing asking prices. Browse home décor, then place your mirror or print ad. The listing photography guide can help present reflective surfaces clearly without hiding the room or the object.
