How to Sell a Home Office Desk in Ireland: Size, Cable Access and Dismantling
Help buyers assess a desk with clear measurements, legroom and condition notes, plus practical information about dismantling and local collection.
A desk may fit a room while still being unsuitable for a buyer's chair, monitor or doorway. Useful measurements and clear photographs make the difference between a promising enquiry and an avoidable collection problem. Prepare the desk as an item for sale, not just a background to your working setup.
Measure the usable space
Give width, depth and height. Note drawers, shelves, keyboard trays or a pedestal that reduce legroom. For an L-shaped desk, measure both sections and explain their orientation. Include the top's thickness if a buyer may want to attach a monitor arm, without promising that every clamp will work.
For a height-adjustable desk, record the range you have verified and explain which controls you tested. Do not estimate load capacity; refer to the exact manufacturer's specification if you include one.
Show condition with the desk clear
Remove laptops, papers and other belongings before taking photographs. Show the complete desk, top surface, edges and supports. Describe chips, scratches, loose fittings and damaged drawer runners. If a mark is hidden by a desk mat in the photograph, show it separately.
State the material accurately where known. A wood-effect surface is not the same as solid timber. Avoid copying a product description for a similar-looking desk if you cannot identify the model.
Plan how it will leave the property
Explain whether the desk can be dismantled using its normal assembly method. If instructions are available, keep them for the buyer. Bag and label fittings if you dismantle it, and photograph the assembled desk first so the original arrangement remains clear.
Tell the buyer about stairs, lift access and parking. Ask them to confirm transport and lifting help. Do not assume you can move a heavy desktop alone or that the buyer will arrive with tools unless you have agreed it.
Make the offer unambiguous
Specify whether the chair, cable tray or monitor arm is included. Compare desks of a similar size, material and condition. If moving out, state a realistic collection window without sharing your full schedule publicly.
Agree payment and inspection, then update the listing once collected. Place a desk ad or see selling an office chair for measurements that help complete the setup.
