Selling Garden Tools in Ireland: Batteries, Blades and Seasonal Storage

Prepare garden tools for sale with accurate model and battery details, transparent condition notes and a safe plan for demonstrating and collecting equipment.

Garden equipment may have spent months in a shed before being offered for sale. That makes it useful to distinguish recent testing from memories of last season. Whether you are selling a lawnmower, trimmer or hand tools, start with the actual equipment and a clear list of what is included.

Identify the power system

Give the manufacturer and model. State whether the tool is manual, mains-powered, battery-powered or petrol-powered. For a cordless item, list the battery model, stated capacity and charger included. A bare tool and a ready-to-use kit should not share the same description.

Do not claim a battery works across a manufacturer's entire range without checking compatibility. Explain whether the buyer will need a separate battery or accessory before they can use the tool.

Describe condition without risky demonstrations

Check for obvious damage, missing guards, damaged handles and cable problems. Do not offer equipment with a known unresolved safety issue as ready to use. Consult the manufacturer's instructions and relevant CCPC product safety notices before passing on a potentially affected product.

Only demonstrate equipment in a suitable area and in a way you can operate safely. Do not run petrol equipment indoors or bypass a safety mechanism for a buyer. If you have not tested it, say that and describe the last known use accurately.

Photograph useful details

Show the complete item, model label and included accessories. Add close-ups of rust, cracks or significant wear. For a mower, state whether the grass box is included. For a hand-tool bundle, give the number and type of tools rather than a single photograph of a crowded shed.

Compare prices for the same power arrangement and condition. A depleted battery or missing charger can change the buyer's total cost substantially, so disclose those limitations before negotiating.

Prepare the handover

Follow the model's instructions for storage and transport, including fuel or battery handling where applicable. Ask the buyer to arrange appropriate transport and lifting help for heavy equipment. Keep sharp or moving parts protected without making improvised changes.

Verify payment and update the ad after collection. Place your garden equipment ad or read about selling power tools for another compatibility checklist.
