A book's title is only part of a useful second-hand listing. The edition, format and condition can determine whether it is the right copy for a buyer. This matters especially for textbooks, illustrated books and series where similar covers can hide different contents.

Identify the copy you have

Give the title, author and whether the book is paperback or hardback. Add the edition and ISBN where available. For a textbook, show the edition page and explain whether access codes or digital extras are included and known to be usable. Do not assume that a code inside a used book can be transferred.

For a series, list each volume. “Complete collection” should mean the collection you identify, not simply all the books you happen to own. Photograph spines together so readers can check titles quickly.

Describe the reading condition

Check for annotations, highlighting, loose pages, water damage and odours. Mention a written dedication or name, without publishing private contact information. A cracked spine or damaged dust jacket may matter even when the text is fully readable.

Do not call an ordinary old book rare because you cannot find another listing. If you think a book has specialist value, document the edition accurately and consider a knowledgeable assessment before setting expectations.

Choose useful bundles

Bundle books by author, topic or reading level where that makes the offer more coherent. A buyer interested in gardening may not want to pay for unrelated novels. Explain whether the price covers the whole bundle and whether individual sales are possible.

Compare the same edition and condition when deciding a price. Include the buyer's delivery cost in your thinking: several heavy books can be expensive to send relative to their value. Weigh a packed bundle before quoting postage.

Keep pages protected

For local collection, store books somewhere dry until handover. For postage, use packaging that protects corners and prevents movement. Do not promise delivery for a particular date without checking the service you intend to use.

Answer edition questions before asking someone to travel. Mark the listing sold after collection, and keep the remaining volumes accurately listed if you split a bundle. Post your book ad or see how to negotiate an offer.
