How to Sell Camping Equipment in Ireland: Tents, Missing Parts and Packing

Prepare tents and camping equipment for sale with honest weather-use notes, clear dimensions and a full list of poles, pegs and accessories.

Camping equipment can look complete inside a storage bag while still missing the pieces needed to use it. Before advertising, unpack the item and check what you can. Buyers planning a trip need an accurate description of the kit, not a promise of perfect performance in every Irish weather forecast.

Pitch a tent before describing it

If practical, assemble the tent using its instructions. Photograph the erected tent, inner compartments and any defects. Count poles, pegs and guy lines, and identify missing or improvised parts. If you cannot pitch it, explain the limits of your check.

Give the model, labelled capacity and dimensions where available. A manufacturer's person count does not guarantee room for everyone's luggage, so include floor measurements if you have them. Avoid claiming that a tent is waterproof based only on its original specification after years of storage.

Describe storage and recent use

Mention damp smells, mould, damaged fabric, worn seams or problems with zips. Explain when the equipment was last used and whether it was stored dry. Do not hide a serious condition issue behind “needs a clean”.

For sleeping bags, provide the exact model and any labelled ratings rather than inventing a temperature suitability claim. Follow care labels when cleaning and allow items to dry properly before packing. Buyers should decide whether the item suits their own trip and conditions.

Keep specialist equipment separate

Stoves, fuel containers and other potentially hazardous items need their own safety assessment and platform-policy check. Do not bundle questionable equipment into a general camping lot to avoid describing its condition. Consult manufacturer instructions and appropriate safety guidance before offering it for reuse.

List ordinary accessories individually so the buyer can see what the price covers. Chairs, tables, groundsheets and storage bags should not be assumed included because they appear in a campsite photograph.

Agree collection or shipping

Give the packed dimensions and weight where useful, and confirm whether the buyer wants it demonstrated. If shipping, check the chosen carrier's restrictions and packaging requirements for every item rather than assuming the whole bundle can go in one parcel.

Close the listing when sold. You can post your camping gear or use the photo guide to make the contents easy to inspect.
