Selling Board Games in Ireland: Editions, Expansions and Missing Pieces

Prepare a board game ad with exact edition details, checked components and clear information about expansions, language and condition.

A board game can look complete in a closed box while missing the card or token needed to play it. Before selling, identify the edition and check the contents as far as practical. Buyers planning an indoor evening need to know what they can actually use, not just recognise the cover.

Name the edition and language

Give the full title, publisher or edition where shown, and the language of cards and instructions. Similar box artwork can cover different rules or component counts. Do not assume an online contents list applies to your particular version.

State whether the offer is a standalone game or an expansion that needs a base game. If an expansion appears beside the main box in a photograph, explain whether it is included and whether all boxes are sold together.

Check components against the rules

Lay out pieces and use the included inventory where available. Explain how thoroughly you checked: a counted component list is different from a quick visual inspection. If completeness is uncertain, state that directly instead of relying on “looks all there”.

Mention damaged cards, missing dice, replacement tokens and written-on materials. For games designed around single-use stickers, opened envelopes or consumable puzzles, explain what has already been used. Do not advertise the experience as untouched merely because the box is in good condition.

Separate box wear from play condition

Photograph the cover, components and significant defects. A split corner can be cosmetic, while a damaged board or incomplete deck can affect play. Describe both rather than applying one vague condition label to the whole package.

Check age guidance from the actual product and do not reclassify a game as suitable for young children because it appears colourful. Keep small loose pieces secure during packing and preserve any available warnings or instructions.

Choose a coherent bundle

Group similar games only when the bundle makes sense, and identify the price of the full lot. If you allow individual sales, update the remaining count promptly. Compare the same edition, language and completeness when pricing.

Agree local collection or packaging and postage before confirming the offer. A box wrapped in thin paper alone may not protect its corners. List your board games, or see selling jigsaws for checking another winter-evening favourite.
