Garden Furniture Before Winter in Ireland: Sell It or Store It?
Decide whether unused garden furniture deserves winter storage, then prepare accurate listings with dimensions, material details and clear collection arrangements.
Garden furniture can occupy a large share of a shed or covered space through winter. Before packing it away, decide whether you still want the set for the next season. The answer should depend on use, condition and storage space rather than the effort already spent moving it around.
Check what you actually have
Count chairs, cushions, table pieces and fittings. Identify mismatched parts and any repairs. Measure the furniture assembled and, where it folds normally, give folded dimensions too. A stackable chair still needs an accurate description of the stack or transport arrangement.
State the material only when verified. Wood-effect, synthetic weave and metal finishes can look similar in photographs. Avoid claiming that an unknown material is weatherproof or maintenance-free because it has survived in your garden so far.
Assess condition before cleaning
Look for damaged joints, cracked components, rust, loose slats and deteriorated cushion covers. Do not cover structural damage with new paint for the listing. If a chair is not suitable to sit on, do not count it among ready-to-use seating.
Follow the product's care instructions for cleaning or storage. Photograph wear before and after appropriate cleaning where that helps explain the condition. State if cushions were stored outdoors or have marks or odours you know about.
Compare selling with the storage burden
Consider the size of the usable storage space and whether you expect to use the furniture again. Do not fill access routes or rely on unstable overhead stacking to avoid a decision. If retaining it, choose storage appropriate to the product rather than assuming any cover prevents damage.
If selling, compare sets with similar materials, size and condition. Explain whether the price includes all cushions, an umbrella or a separate base. Accessories in an old summer photograph should not become accidental promises.
Plan a dry, realistic collection
Photograph the actual set in suitable light and agree transport requirements before the buyer arrives. Avoid dismantling unfamiliar joints for a rushed sale. Do not leave fabric cushions outside in rain awaiting an unconfirmed collection.
Check payment independently and update the listing after handover. Place a garden furniture ad, or read the winter collection guide before agreeing a weather-dependent pickup.
